welcome to The Discover Project - Cruisin' 118

HOORAY! You already started your road trip off with a pit-stop at Antioch at the “Pick Up Party” today, awesome! If you’re reading this that means you found the QR code in your envelope, hooray! We are so excited that you are joining us for this very special hybrid (online & in-person) version of The Discover Project this year. Below you’ll find everything that you and your child need to know for the best road trip ever! Hop in, we’re CRUISIN’ 118!

Make plans now to end your road trip on Thursday, July 22nd at Antioch (4555 Runway St) at the special Discover Project “Drive-In Event” starting at 7pm in the auditorium. Children will “drive-in” in their craft that they made for the week and “park” in the “parking lot” for this event (this will all be inside the auditorium). There will be an opportunity to debrief with the children all about what they learned this week and look at photos from everyone’s road trip. Then there will be a special showing of the movie Cars along with movie snacks for the whole family!

Everything between now and then on your road trip is up to you! Choose from the many different options of ways to engage with your children at home this week like: stories (in your envelope), worship (links to videos below), missions (see below), craft (instructions below) and much more.

Plus, you can meet up with us on your road trip at various locations and times around town this week. When you show up at the designated times and places (listed under "find us on the road" below), your child can expect to see their crew leader, meet some new friends, and have a special surprise waiting for them. There is also a special map inside your envelope with ideas of things to do at each location if you want to branch out on your own or you cannot come when we will be there.

No matter when or how you road trip this year, we want to see what you’re up to. Use #cruisin118 to share photos of you and your child worshipping together, engaging in the stories, building your crafts and meeting up with others on their road trip. Crews will earn points for their team for each photo uploaded with the hashtag #cruisin118

This is going to be a great week, we can’t wait to see you around town!

  • Find the story insert in your envelope and follow along each day for a new story about Jesus and his time on earth. Make sure to help your child find the location of the story on their story map!

  • Every year at The Discover Project we spend time learning about Missions and what it looks like for us kids to be on mission for Jesus, even at a young age. This year, we are going to hear a little bit of what the team from Antioch Church is going to do on their missions trip to Haiti. Click here to watch a short video with your child about the Haiti Team.

Missions Challenge: Write a note or draw a picture for the kids in the orphanage in Haiti and bring it with you to the Drive-In event on Thursday, July 22nd for the team to take with them to Haiti.

Bonus: add Jesus loves you in Haitian Creole somewhere in your note or picture.

Jesus loves you = Jezi renmen ou

  • This year’s craft is a project for you and your child to work on together at home so that you can bring it to the church for the Drive-In Event on Thursday, July 22nd at 7pm. You should have received a cardboard box at the Pick-Up Party, now it’s time to put on your creative hat and help your child turn it into a car for them to “drive” at the Drive-In event.

Listed below are four different blog links to different examples (and different skills levels, for those of us who are not crafty people) to make a car out of cardboard. Encourage your child to help in any way that he/she can, especially when it comes to decorating it.

Then, get ready to have your child “drive-in” on Thursday in their creation!
